YEAR 7 LETTERS

I am writing to draw your attention to the upcoming Assessment Period for Year 7 from Wednesday 6 November to Friday 15 November 2024. As part of our monitoring and tracking, all students at Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form (TGS) undergo two formal assessment periods each academic year. Our rationale for having assessment periods is to ensure that we are able to accurately assess our students and identify and address areas where knowledge and skills need strengthening. Additionally, this gives students practice in the lower school with revising and planning for assessments in both practical and academic subjects.

On Tuesday 19 November 2024, Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form will have its first Whole School Curriculum Day (WSCD) for this academic year. Year 7 will be in school, but off-timetable, taking part in wider curriculum experiences led by the Modern Foreign Languages and Religious Studies Departments. Each department will be completing fun and active learning sessions throughout the day with the aim of enriching and supporting the learning of the Key Stage 3 curriculum content.

We would like to invite your daughter to our annual Year 7 Social which will take place on Thursday 24 October 2024 from 6.00pm to 7.15pm. We would love for everyone in Year 7 to participate in this social event, therefore we are providing a number of extra activities this year for those who would like to attend but perhaps do not wish to dance to music.

We hope that your daughter has already started to settle in well at Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form and that they are enjoying secondary school life. We have been amazed by how well the Year Group have adapted to all the new systems and procedures and how quickly they seem to have become a part of our school family.

All students are able to book themselves a locker here at Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form.
This is a great way to store books/folders/sportswear and anything else that does not need to be taken to class at one particular time.

I am sure that you and your daughter have been anticipating their first day of secondary school all summer, perhaps even before then. It is a monumental day, and one that we often remember our whole lives. It can be an emotional day, but a special one all the same, for yourselves as well as your daughter. The day is no less special for us at Tolworth Girls' School & Sixth Form (TGS). It is an honour and a privilege to welcome your daughter into our community and to support them in starting this journey.

Throughout their time at Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form, your daughter will be involved in a variety of opportunities to explore careers education and guidance. This is an important part of the 11-19 curriculum and makes a major contribution to preparing young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. It also supports young people to make decisions and manage transitions as learners and workers.
